Namib Briquettes are charcoal briquettes in a 4kg bag: uniform Namibian hardwood braai briquettes that light predictably, burn evenly and hold a steady temperature for a long cook. The Firewood Company delivers briquettes from Parow across Cape Town, the Winelands and the West Coast.

Namib Briquettes at a glance

  • Quick facts: 4kg bag · Namibian hardwood charcoal briquettes, not coal · light predictably, burn evenly · our default fuel for a Weber or kettle braai
  • Dry Guarantee: yes, this bag carries our Dry Guarantee
  • Best for: Weber and kettle braais, long cooks, a snake-method smoke
  • Not for: a fast, fierce sear on their own (add lump)
  • Pack: stores flat and stacks neatly
  • Delivery: one flat fee per drop for your area, from R200; carried in and stacked within 50 m of where the truck offloads

Best for / not for

  • Best for whole chicken, snoek on the Weber or a leg of lamb over indirect heat: steady beats fierce.
  • Briquettes or lump? Briquettes for a long, steady cook; lump charcoal for a fast, hot sear. Quick weeknight braai? Namib Charcoal, our 5kg charcoal.
  • An open braai instead of a kettle? Braai wood such as kameeldoring wood: one 18kg bag gives a full grid of coals.
  • See all our charcoal.

How to cook with them

Bank the lit briquettes to one side for indirect heat, or lay them in a snake around the kettle for a long, slow smoke. The house tip: briquettes for the base, lump for the sear.

Namib Briquettes: common questions

Are Namib Briquettes made of coal?

No. They are charcoal briquettes made from Namibian hardwood, for the braai and the Weber. Coal for a stove is our Premium Anthracite.

Which briquettes are best for a Weber?

Charcoal briquettes that light predictably and hold a steady heat. Namib Briquettes are our default for any Weber or kettle braai: Namibian hardwood charcoal, 4kg a bag.

How do I light charcoal briquettes?

One or two firelighters under the pile, or a chimney starter. Let them ash over before you cook.

Can I put wood on my Weber?

No, we don't recommend wood on a Weber or any kettle braai. Use briquettes, or charcoal for extra heat.
