The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, braai wood, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Stellenbosch, Mostertsdrift, Krigeville, Die Boord, Paradyskloof, Idas Valley, Jonkershoek and Devon Valley for R300 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–3 business days, and the driver carries the bags in and stacks them — Dorp Street passage or farm wood store, it is in the fee.

Delivery fee: R300 for the town, the valleys and the farms alike, on any size order. No minimum.

Delivery days: Monday to Friday. Stellenbosch is on the Winelands round, so allow 1–3 business days, and 2–4 in the weeks of July when the whole valley is lighting fires. Checkout shows the live turnaround before you pay.

Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s Winelands run. An order after that normally waits for the next run — WhatsApp us rather than assume.

Carry-in and stacking: in the fee. If you want the wood loose in the store rather than left in bags, unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.

Access: term-time Stellenbosch is a grid of one-ways and Dorp Street parking is a negotiation. Leave a cellphone number the driver can reach on the day, and say where he can stand for ten minutes without blocking the street.

An oak town, and how the cold works in it

Stellenbosch is an oak town, and the oaks tell you how the cold works here. Which wood suits an old Stellenbosch fireplace?

Bloekom for a deep open hearth — it catches easily and burns evenly. For a closed-combustion unit we recommend bloekom or blackwattle — steady, even heat that won’t push the unit past what it was built for. For a small hearth in a student house, Short Pieces are cut for exactly that at R105.

We farm on the R44. Can we order loose wood?

Yes, all year. Loose blue gum and blackwattle come in 250 to 3,000 pieces, R550 for 250 or R2,000 for 1,000, offloaded where you point. Loose wood is sold as-is for buyers with covered storage and carries no Dry Guarantee — the bagged wood is the wood that does.

Do you deliver over the university holidays?

Yes. The Winelands run is Monday to Friday all year. December and January are quiet on the student streets and busy on the farms, which suits the truck either way — order by Thursday 15:00 and you are on Friday’s load.

Is the bagged wood dry enough for a thatch-and-oak house in July?

Yes. A room behind walls that thick needs wood that lights first time, so every bag is seasoned and kept under cover at our Parow yard until it goes on the truck. Can four of us in a student house split one delivery?

Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it. One order, one R300 fee, as many bags as the house wants — there is no minimum. Put one cellphone number in the order notes for the driver and say where the bags go.

Do you deliver to the wine farms in Jonkershoek and Devon Valley?

Yes — Jonkershoek, Devon Valley, Idas Valley and the farms along the R44 are on the same R300 Winelands run as the town. Give us the farm name and the gate or turn-off in the order notes; checkout confirms the fee from your postcode before you pay.

Why does Stellenbosch take 1–3 days when Cape Town suburbs say 1–2?
