What a standing order looks like

You tell us your turnover. We size the drop and put it on the route.

Most kitchens run out of charcoal the same way: somebody counts the bags on a Thursday, there are two left, and Friday is cooked on whatever the nearest forecourt sells. A standing order replaces that. We agree a weekly quantity of charcoal, wood and briquettes that matches what you burn, it goes on the truck for your area on a fixed day, and the driver carries it in and stacks it before service. Long weekend or a function coming, you WhatsApp the number and the drop goes up for that week.

The other half of the mechanism is the product itself. Our lump charcoal is graded to 50–150mm and it arrives at that size bag after bag, which means the grill is set up the same way every week rather than adjusted to whatever came in. Piece size is the thing a grill cook notices first, so we treat it as the specification, not a description.

What trade buys

Retail prices shown. Trade pricing is quoted on WhatsApp against your weekly volume, not printed here.

Restaurant Grade Lump Charcoal 10kg — R150 — 50–150mm, no binders. The charcoal Cape Town’s leading steakhouses cook on. Fierce direct heat, holds its shape under a long service. Trade pricing on request.

Kameeldoring ±18kg — R120 — dense Namibian hardwood that settles into hot coals and stays there. For the open wood grill, the boma at the venue, the fireplace in the guest lounge. Trade pricing on request.

Sekeldoring (sekelbos) ±18kg — R120 — smaller pieces, lights faster, burns fiercer. The wood for the pizza oven and for a grill that has to be ready quickly. Trade pricing on request.

Namib Briquettes 4kg — R60 — steady temperature for longer than lump. The base under a low-and-slow cook and the safe choice for a guest braai in the wind. Trade pricing on request.

Blue Gum / Bloekom, Blackwattle, Heat Logs, kindling and firelighters go on the same order.

Guest houses, hotels and self-catering

The December problem is a storage problem wearing a supply problem’s clothes.

A self-catering manager with six units and a changeover every second day has no shortage of guests who want a braai. What they lack is somewhere to keep three weeks of charcoal, and time to fetch more when the last bag goes on the 28th. So we size the drop to the units and the season, deliver a quantity the store can hold, and repeat on a fixed day through the peak. Charcoal, firelighters and kindling, topped up on a message, and the guest finds the braai stocked on arrival.

Wedding venues and country hotels run the opposite calendar: fireplaces and bomas from April to September. Kameeldoring and Namibian Hardwood Chunky on a standing winter order, Blue Gum / Bloekom for the hearths, delivered to the wood store and stacked. The Winelands route runs Monday to Friday at one flat fee, so a venue outside Stellenbosch or Franschhoek is on the same terms as one in Newlands.

Trade supply — FAQ

Is there a minimum order?

No. A standing order is sized to what you burn, whether that is four bags a week or forty. The one exception is the West Coast route, which runs every second and last Friday of the month with a R2,000 minimum because it is a dedicated truck.

How often can you deliver?

Trucks run Monday to Friday on every metro route and across the Winelands and Helderberg; the Northern Suburbs route also runs Saturdays. A standing order is usually weekly. If your turnover needs more than one drop a week, say so; the trucks run every weekday.

Can you invoice us?

Trade terms, including invoicing, are discussed when we set up the standing order. WhatsApp us with your weekly volume and we take it from there.

Do you deliver before service?

Yes. That is what a standing order is for: a fixed day on your route, timed so the bags are in the store and stacked before service. A first order is typically 1–2 business days from confirmation; after that it is the same day every week.

Send us your weekly volume. We send back a price.

One WhatsApp, and charcoal and wood are on a standing order, stacked before service.
