Blackwattle is denser than bloekom, burns hotter and leaves better cooking coals, which makes it the local wood for a braai as well as for a fireplace that wants hardwood staying power without a Namibian price. Under the grid it gives a proper bed of coals for chops and boerewors; in a pizza oven it holds the floor; in a kaggel it burns longer and steadier than blue gum, with less topping up.
