Delivery to Fish Hoek & Kalk Bay

The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, Short Pieces, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Fish Hoek, Clovelly and Kalk Bay for R495 per drop, and to Muizenberg and St James for R350. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days, and the driver carries the bags up the Kalk Bay steps and stacks them inside the door — that is in the fee.

Delivery fee — two numbers on this stretch of coast. R495 to Fish Hoek (7974), Clovelly and Kalk Bay (7990). R350 to Muizenberg (7950) and St James (7945), which fall in the nearer zone. If you searched from Muizenberg, R350 is your number. No minimum either way.

Delivery days: Monday to Friday. This is the far end of the South Peninsula run, so most orders arrive within 1–2 business days and in the coldest weeks of winter allow 2–4. Checkout shows the current turnaround before you pay.

Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s South Peninsula run. After that we would rather put you on the next run than promise a truck that is already loaded — WhatsApp us and we tell you straight.

Carry-in and stacking: in the fee, lanes and steps included. If you want the wood loose in a box rather than in bags, unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.

Access: Kalk Bay is the awkward one — steep lanes off Main Road, nowhere to park on the strip, and the railway between the road and the water, so every house is on the mountain side. Tell us where a truck can stop and how far the bags travel. Fish Hoek is flat and mostly has a driveway at the gate. Kalk Bay is where the route stops.

Kalk Bay is built on a slope with a railway line at the bottom of it. The lanes climb off Main Road at an angle that makes a handbrake a matter of opinion, the cottages on them are small, old and shoulder to shoulder, and the fireplaces inside were built when a shovel of coal was the fuel — shallow, narrow, no home for a full-length log. Above it Boyes Drive runs the length of the mountain with the bay underneath. Fish Hoek, round the corner, is the opposite: a flat grid between two beaches, wide streets, lived in by people who retired into them and want a fire lit at five, not a woodpile to manage. Clovelly sits up the valley behind the golf course, a degree colder; St James is a row of houses above the tidal pool and the bathing boxes. What ties the lot together is the damp: a False Bay July gets into the walls, and the fire is what shifts it.

Do you deliver to Simon’s Town or Kommetjie?

No. The False Bay side of our route ends at Kalk Bay and the Atlantic side ends at Noordhoek, so Simon’s Town, Kommetjie, Glencairn, Scarborough and Ocean View are outside it. WhatsApp us on 060 978 8945 if you are further down the line — routes have extended before when the orders were there.

Which wood suits a small Kalk Bay cottage fireplace?

Short Pieces. Those grates are shallow and were built for coal, so a standard log hangs out of the fire and smokes instead of drawing. Short Pieces are the same seasoned bloekom, cut to fit. For a closed-combustion unit, Heat Logs leave very little ash.

Can you park on Kalk Bay Main Road to deliver?

Not for long, which is why the order notes matter more here than anywhere else on the run. Tell us the nearest place a truck can stand and how many steps there are up to your door, and the driver carries the bags the rest of the way.

Is the wood dry enough for a damp False Bay July?

Yes. Every bag is seasoned and kept under cover at our Parow yard until it goes on the truck, so it lights first time and burns hot instead of hissing — which is the whole point when the damp is already in the walls. Do you deliver to Clovelly and St James?

Yes. Clovelly (up the valley behind the golf course) is R495, with Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay. St James (above the tidal pool) and Muizenberg are R350 — use postcode 7945 for St James. Checkout works the fee out from your postcode and shows it before you pay.

Can you deliver to a retirement village or a flat in Fish Hoek?

Yes, and it is a good part of what we do here. Give us the village or block name, the unit number and the visitor procedure in the order notes, and the driver books in and brings the bags to the door. Two bags of Short Pieces or a box of Heat Logs at a time is a normal order — there is no minimum.

Which way does the truck come, and does it matter?

Over Ou Kaapse Weg or along the Main Road from Muizenberg, and only the timing changes: Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay are the far end of the South Peninsula run, so order by Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s truck. Checkout shows the live turnaround before you pay.
