Delivery to Woodstock & Salt River
The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, short pieces, Namibian hardwood and restaurant-grade lump charcoal to Woodstock, Upper Woodstock, Walmer Estate and Salt River for R300 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days, and the driver carries the bags down the passage and stacks them — that is in the fee. Observatory shares the postcode but is on our Southern Suburbs page.
Delivery fee: R300 for a bag of charcoal to a kitchen or twenty bags of bloekom to a semi. No minimum order.
Delivery days: Monday to Friday. Most Woodstock orders arrive within 1–2 business days; in the coldest weeks of winter, when every grate on the hill is lit, allow 2–4. Checkout shows the current turnaround before you pay.
Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s City Bowl run. Later than that, WhatsApp us — a gap on the Friday truck happens, but a kitchen should not plan Friday service around it.
Carry-in and stacking: in the fee, from the corner to the passage if the truck cannot get closer. If you want the wood loose in a box rather than in bags, unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.
Access: the side streets between Albert Road and Roodebloem Road are narrow, parked on both sides and often one-way. Tell us in the order notes whether the truck can pull up outside or has to stop at the corner, and the driver carries the bags the rest of the way.
From the harbour edge up to Devil’s Peak
Woodstock runs from the harbour edge up the slope towards Devil’s Peak, and the two halves want different things from us. Upper Woodstock, on the hill above Roodebloem Road, is rows of Victorian semis and cottages with a pressed-steel ceiling, a narrow passage and an original grate in the front room that was built for coal and is happier now with a short piece of bloekom. Lower down, along Albert Road, the old mills and warehouses have been cut into lofts and studios, and a loft has a closed-combustion unit and a cupboard rather than a fireplace and a wood store — heat logs country. Salt River, over the railway line, is the same Victorian stock in tighter rows, and the same small grates. The weather here is the south-easter coming down off Devil’s Peak, hard enough in summer to move a wheelie bin down Roodebloem Road, and wood left in an open yard gets dust in it before it gets lit. Then there is the trade. Albert Road and the streets off it hold a real concentration of coffee roasters, grills and pizza ovens, and most of them are buying charcoal from whoever answered the phone last week. A 10kg bag of restaurant-grade lump charcoal, same piece size every bag, on a standing weekly drop, is the fix for that.
What we’d put on the truck for a Woodstock semi: four short pieces for the grate and a bag of pine kindling. For a loft: two bags of heat logs.
What Woodstock & Salt River orders
Short Pieces – Blue Gum 20kg — R105 — bloekom cut short for a Victorian grate that was never built for a full-length log. Same wood, no wrestling.
Namibian Hardwood Eco / Heat Logs 10kg (12 logs) — R115 — compressed hardwood, uniform and low on ash, with no bark to sweep off a loft floor. For the closed-combustion unit in a converted warehouse.

Woodstock & Salt River firewood delivery — FAQ
How much is firewood delivery to Woodstock or Salt River?
R300 flat, the same for Upper Woodstock, Walmer Estate and Salt River, whether you order one bag of charcoal or twenty bags of bloekom. It shows at checkout before you pay.
Which wood is best for a Victorian grate in a Woodstock semi?
Short Pieces. The old grates were built for coal, and a full-length log sits awkwardly in them. Short pieces of bloekom go in properly, light easily and burn evenly. If you have a closed-combustion unit instead, heat logs.
Do you supply restaurants and coffee roasters in Woodstock?
Yes. Namibian hardwood and firewood — bloekom and blackwattle — in quantity, charcoal and briquettes for the kitchens that use them, and LP gas through our sister company Help U Gas, all on a standing order that runs with your route’s run days. WhatsApp us for trade pricing.
Where should I keep the wood in a small Woodstock yard?
Under cover, off the ground and with the open side away from Devil’s Peak, because that is where the south-easter comes from. A corner of the passage or under the stoep works. Tell us where in the order notes and the driver stacks it there, not at the gate.
Is the wood dry enough for a small Victorian grate?
Yes — a coal-era grate with a narrow throat is the first place damp wood shows itself, so every bag is seasoned and kept under cover at our Parow yard until it goes on the truck. That is the Dry Guarantee we have stood behind for 25 years: if a bag disappoints, tell us and we make it right. Read the Dry Guarantee.
Can you deliver to a loft in a converted warehouse on Albert Road?
Yes. Put the building name, the floor, the lift or stairs and any access code in the order notes, and the driver brings the bags up. A box or two of Heat Logs at a time is the usual loft order — they store in a cupboard — and there is no minimum.
Is Walmer Estate and Upper Woodstock the same fee as Salt River?
Yes — Woodstock, Upper Woodstock, Walmer Estate and Salt River are all R300 on the City Bowl run. Observatory shares the postcode but sits on our Southern Suburbs page at the same R300. Checkout confirms the fee from your postcode before you pay.
Can a restaurant get a standing weekly charcoal order?
Yes. Tell us the quantity and the day and it goes on the run every week without re-ordering — restaurant-grade lump charcoal, kameeldoring or briquettes, delivered to the kitchen door before service. WhatsApp 060 978 8945 and we set it up.
