Delivery to Somerset West

The Firewood Company delivers braai wood, kaggelhout, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Somerset West, Heldervue, Parel Vallei, Somerset Ridge, Bridgewater, Croydon and Firgrove for R300 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–3 business days, and the driver carries the bags from the visitor bay to the braai room and stacks them — that is in the fee.

Delivery fee: R300 across Somerset West and its estates, two bags or twenty. No minimum order.

Delivery days: Monday to Friday. Somerset West is the far end of the Winelands and Helderberg round, so allow 1–3 business days, and 2–4 in the weeks of July when the whole basin is lighting fires. Checkout shows the live turnaround before you pay.

Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s Winelands run. Later than that, the order rolls to the next run unless a gap opens — send a and we tell you straight.

Carry-in and stacking: in the fee, boom to braai room. Want the wood loose in the store rather than in bags? Unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.

Access: estate deliveries want the estate name, the street and your gate procedure in the order notes. Where visitors have to register, add the number security will phone, and the driver is through the boom instead of parked at it.

The Helderberg decides the evening

Somerset West sits in a basin with the Helderberg standing over it, and the mountain decides the evening. Late in the day the south-easter comes across the range and drops into the bowl, which is why so much of the housing stock here has an indoor braai room rather than an open patio — a hearth with its own chimney and a door that closes, built as a room in its own right and used from March through to November. Up the slope in Heldervue and Parel Vallei the houses are newer and bigger, with a closed-combustion fireplace in the living room as well as the braai, so the winter order is two woods and not one. Off Main Road and Lourensford Road the golf estates and the retirement villages run to long driveways, booms and a fair walk from the visitor bay to the back of the house — which is the part people quietly want handled. Carrying and stacking is in the fee, so nobody is dragging twenty-kilo bags down a driveway in the wind.

What we’d put on the truck for a Somerset West house: four blackwattle for the braai room, two bloekom for the nights it is being used as a fireplace, and a box of firelighters.

What Somerset West orders

Blackwattle Seasoned 20kg — R109 — denser than bloekom, hotter, and it leaves the cooking coals a braai room is built around. Local hardwood behaviour at a local price.

Sekeldoring (sekelbos) 18kg — R120 — smaller pieces that catch fast and burn fierce. The Wednesday braai, when nobody wants to start a fire an hour early.

Swarthaak 15kg — R100 — nearly kameeldoring density at a friendlier price, in a bag light enough to move one-handed.

Somerset West firewood delivery — FAQ

How much is firewood delivery to Somerset West?

R300 flat per drop, and the same in Heldervue, Parel Vallei, Somerset Ridge, Bridgewater, Croydon and Firgrove. Two bags or twenty, the fee does not move, and checkout shows it before you pay.

Which wood is best for an indoor braai room?

Blackwattle. It burns hot and settles into good cooking coals, and a braai room’s draw handles it well. Kameeldoring if you are feeding a crowd and want the coals to hold to the end. Sekelbos if the fire needs to be ready in a hurry.

We’re behind a boom with visitor registration. How does that work?

Put the estate name, the street and the registration procedure in the order notes, with a number security can call. The driver books in, brings the bags to the braai room, the wood store or the garage, and stacks them there. That carrying is in the fee, not an extra.

Do you deliver in Somerset West on a Saturday?

No — the Winelands and Helderberg route runs Monday to Friday. Order by Thursday 15:00 and you are on the Friday truck, which is the one to aim for when the braai is a weekend plan.

Is the wood dry enough to braai on tonight?

Yes. Every bag is seasoned and stored under cover at our Parow yard before it goes out, so it lights properly and burns hot instead of hissing and filling the braai room with smoke. That is the Dry Guarantee we have stood behind for 25 years: if a bag disappoints, tell us and we make it right. Read the Dry Guarantee.

Do you deliver to Croydon, Firgrove and the estates off the R44?

Yes — Croydon, Firgrove, Bridgewater and Somerset Ridge are all in the R300 Somerset West zone, along with the estates up towards Heldervue and Parel Vallei. Checkout confirms the fee from your postcode before you pay.

Can you deliver to a retirement village?

Yes, and we do it often in Somerset West. Put the village name, the unit number and the visitor procedure in the order notes, and the driver books in at the gate and carries the bags to the unit. Smaller, more frequent orders suit a village well — there is no minimum.

Why is the lead time 1–3 days here when the City Bowl says 1–2?

Somerset West is the far end of our Winelands and Helderberg round, so the truck comes out when the round fills rather than every day. Order by Thursday 15:00 and Friday’s run is the one to count on; checkout always shows the live turnaround.

Order for the next Winelands run

Order by Thursday 15:00 and Friday’s Winelands truck is through your boom with the bags — carried to the braai room and stacked.
