Delivery to Darling
The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, braai wood, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Darling, the farms along the R307 and R315, and the wine estates on the Darling hills for R350 per drop, on a fixed West Coast route every second and last Friday of the month. Offloading and stacking the bags included.
Delivery fee: R350 flat, whatever you order. Minimum order R2,000 on this route.
Delivery days: Every second Friday and the last Friday of the month — a fixed route, not an on-demand one. The turnaround for your order is shown at checkout before you pay.
Cut-off: order by Thursday 15:00 to make that Friday’s truck. Miss it and the wood waits for the next West Coast run, two weeks on — so order the week before the weekend, not the day before.
Offloading and stacking the bags: included. Unbagging is R10 a bag, added at checkout.
What a route-sized order costs, delivered: 20 × R120 kameeldoring + R350 = R2,750. The West Coast run carries a R2,000 minimum order, so two households on one street often share a drop.
Access: In town the truck stops at the gate and the driver carries the bags through. On the farms, give us the farm name, the turn-off, whether the road is gravel and where the wood store is — and the name of the dog, which is more useful than it sounds.
Darling: the local paragraph
Darling sits where the Swartland wheat meets the coast hills, and it gets the weather of both. In winter the cold fronts come straight in off the Atlantic across open fields, and the old houses along Main Road and Long Street — high ceilings, sash windows, a fireplace in every front room — were built for the look of it rather than the warmth. They take a full-length bloekom and they take a lot of it. Out on the farms and the wine estates it is a different fire: a wood stove in the kitchen that runs from breakfast, a braai room built onto the side of the house, and orders that come in farm quantities. Spring is the other season here. From August the wildflowers bring people up the R307 every weekend, the guest houses fill, and every one of them has a fireplace guests expect to find lit.
It is a town that buys wood in two rhythms — a big winter order for the house, and a steady spring-and-summer run of braai wood for the stoep — and the fortnightly truck fits both.
What we’d put on the truck for a Darling farmhouse in June: twelve bloekom for the front room, four kameeldoring for the wood stove, and a bag of potjie kindling to get both going on a cold morning. For a guest house in flower season: ten bloekom and two boxes of firelighters, stacked by the back door.

Yes, on the same fee, if the farm is off the R307 or R315 between Darling and the route. Put the farm name and the turn-off in the order notes, and say whether a 4-ton truck can manage the road after rain.
