Delivery to Gardens & Oranjezicht
The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, short pieces, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Gardens, Oranjezicht and the streets between Kloof Street and Upper Orange Street for R300 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days, and the driver carries the bags in and stacks them — that is part of the fee, not an extra.
Delivery fee: R300 to any address in Gardens or Oranjezicht, two bags or twenty. There is no minimum order.
Delivery days: Monday to Friday. Most Gardens orders arrive within 1–2 business days; in the cold snaps of June and July, when the whole hill orders in the same week, allow 2–4. Checkout shows the current turnaround before you pay.
Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s City Bowl run. Miss it and send a WhatsApp anyway — if the Friday truck has room we’ll add you, but we can’t promise it.
Carry-in and stacking: included, up the front steps and into the passage or courtyard. If you’d rather have the wood loose in a box or a wood store, unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.
Access: the one-ways off Kloof Street and Upper Orange Street give a truck one attempt and nowhere to park once it stops, so we send the smaller truck to Gardens as standard. Tell us in the order notes whether the front door is up steps from the pavement.
Firewood for the old houses on the hill
Gardens and Oranjezicht sit on the lowest slope of Table Mountain, running uphill from the Company’s Garden to the Molteno Reservoir, and the houses are the oldest we deliver to. Victorian and Edwardian terraces with a broekie-lace stoep at the front and a cast-iron grate in the front room, put there in 1900 to be used every night and still doing it. The mountain stands to the south of these streets, so the winter sun comes in low from the north over the harbour, and what takes it away is Lion’s Head and Signal Hill to the west: by mid-afternoon in June the shadow has crossed Kloof Street and the grate is lit. When the tablecloth is on the mountain the south-easter comes down Upper Orange Street with it, which is when a properly dry bag matters more than a big one. Along Kloof Street and lower Gardens the flats are a different order altogether — a small hearth or a closed-combustion unit, and nowhere to keep more than a week of wood. After Rondebosch and Newlands, no part of Cape Town has bought more firewood from us than the City Bowl, and most of that is an old house on this hill being fed a bag at a time.
What we’d put on the truck for a Gardens house: four bloekom for the grate, two short pieces if the fireplace is a small one, a bag of kindling, stacked in the passage or the courtyard.
What Gardens & Oranjezicht orders
Blue Gum / Bloekom Seasoned 20kg — R109 — the nightly fireplace wood. Catches easily and settles into a long, even burn in an open Victorian grate.
Short Pieces – Blue Gum 20kg — R105 — cut short for a small cast-iron hearth or a closed-combustion unit in a flat, so the piece goes in without a fight.
Kindling / Potjie (Namibian Hardwood) — R49 — dense Namibian hardwood cut small. One firelighter and a handful of these gets a cold Oranjezicht grate going, and a bag sees most houses through the winter.

Gardens & Oranjezicht firewood delivery — FAQ
How much is firewood delivery to Gardens or Oranjezicht?
R300 flat, whether you order two bags or twenty, and the same fee from Kloof Street up to the top of Upper Orange Street. It shows at checkout before you pay.
Which wood is best for an old Gardens fireplace?
Bloekom for an open cast-iron grate. Short Pieces if the grate is a small one or you have a closed-combustion unit — a full-length log is a wrestle in a Victorian firebox. Namibian hardwood if you want the fire still glowing when the last guest leaves.
Our street is a one-way with no parking. Can you still deliver?
Yes. Most of Gardens is like that. We send the smaller truck, and if you tell us in the order notes whether we can stop outside and whether the door is up steps from the pavement, the driver carries the bags in and stacks them where you want them.
Do you deliver to Gardens on Saturdays?
No — the City Bowl run is Monday to Friday. Order by Thursday 15:00 and you’re on Friday’s truck. The factory shop at 35 Tredoux Street, Parow is open for collection on Saturdays 08:00–12:45.
Is the wood dry enough for an open grate?
Yes. Everything bagged is seasoned and stored under cover at our Parow yard before it goes on the truck, so it lights properly and burns hot rather than hissing and smoking up the front room. That is the Dry Guarantee we have stood behind for 25 years: if a bag disappoints, tell us and we put it right. Read the Dry Guarantee.
Can you deliver to a flat on Kloof Street?
Yes. Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift in the order notes, and the driver carries the bags up. Flats along Kloof Street and lower Gardens usually take two or three bags of Short Pieces at a time rather than a big drop, because there is nowhere to keep more.
Do you deliver to upper Oranjezicht, near the Molteno Reservoir?
Yes. The whole of Oranjezicht up to the reservoir and the mountain contour is in the R300 City Bowl zone. Steep driveways and tight turns up there are normal for us — the smaller truck handles them, and a note about where to stop helps the driver.
I’m not home during the day. Can you leave the wood?
Yes, if you tell us where in the order notes: a courtyard, behind a gate you leave unlocked, or with a neighbour. The driver stacks it there. If the bags need to go inside, choose a delivery day when someone is home.
Order for the next City Bowl run
Order by Thursday 15:00 and Friday’s truck comes up Kloof Street with your bags — carried in and stacked where you want them.
