Delivery to Pinelands

The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, braai wood, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Pinelands for R250 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days, and the driver carries the bags in and stacks them — garage, wood store or carport, it is in the fee.

Delivery fee: R250 on any size order, no minimum. Pinelands is postcode 7405, which puts it in a different delivery zone from the R300 suburbs further south — closer to Parow, lower fee.

Delivery days: Monday to Friday, and Saturdays on request when there is enough demand. Being this close to the yard, most Pinelands orders arrive within 1–2 business days; in the coldest weeks of winter allow 2–4. Checkout shows the current turnaround before you pay.

Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s Southern Suburbs run. A later order sometimes fits on the Friday truck — WhatsApp and ask, but don’t build the weekend around it.

Carry-in and stacking: in the fee. If you would rather have the wood loose in the store behind the kitchen than in bags, unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.

Collecting instead? The factory shop is at 35 Tredoux Street, Parow — Monday to Friday 08:00–16:30, Saturday 08:00–12:45 — and from Pinelands it is ten minutes up the road. No delivery fee, and we load the bakkie for you.

Access: wide avenues, deep verges and a driveway at nearly every house. The only thing to tell us is where the bags go — the garage, the wood store behind the kitchen, or under the carport — and whether the side gate is locked.

The garden city, ten minutes from the yard

Pinelands was laid out in 1919 as South Africa’s first garden city, and it still looks like the plan: curving avenues off Forest Drive, verges wider than some Cape Town streets, big trees, and houses set back on plots generous enough that neighbours don’t share a wall. A good number of the originals are thatched, and the rest were built in the same decades with a chimney on the roof and a hearth in the sitting room — often a small one, made for a different era of fuel. Thatch changes how a fireplace gets used. If yours is under thatch, follow your thatch insurer’s guidance on chimney and fireplace use; we sell the wood, they set the rules. The suburb backs onto Mowbray Golf Club on one side and the N2 on the other, and on a winter evening the wind coming across the flats goes straight through an original timber sash. This is also the closest suburb on the route to our yard — Parow is ten minutes up Jan Smuts Drive — so a Pinelands order is either the cheapest delivery on the route or a Saturday morning with a bakkie, whichever suits.

What we’d put on the truck for a Pinelands house: four bloekom for the sitting-room hearth, two Short Pieces for the small grate in the study, a bag of Pine kindling, stacked in the garage.

What Pinelands orders

Blue Gum / Bloekom Seasoned 20kg — R109 — the fireplace wood for an original Pinelands hearth. Catches easily and gives a long, even evening.

Short Pieces – Blue Gum 20kg — R105 — cut short for the smaller grates the garden-city houses were built with, and for a closed-combustion unit. The same seasoned bloekom, at a length that fits.

Namibian Hardwood Eco / Heat Logs 10kg (12 logs) — R115 — compressed hardwood, uniform, low ash and no bark mess. For a closed-combustion unit, and for a house where the wood lives in a cupboard rather than a pile.

How much is firewood delivery to Pinelands?

R250 flat, whether you order two bags or twenty. Pinelands is postcode 7405 and sits in a different delivery zone from Newlands, Claremont and the suburbs further south, which are R300. The fee shows at checkout before you pay.

Can I collect from Parow instead?

Yes. The factory shop is at 35 Tredoux Street, Parow — Monday to Friday 08:00–16:30, Saturday 08:00–12:45 — about ten minutes from Pinelands. There is no delivery fee on collection, and we load it for you.

We have a thatched roof. Can we still burn wood in the fireplace?

Follow your thatch insurer’s guidance on chimney and fireplace use — that is the only advice we will give on thatch, because they know your roof and your policy and we don’t. Whatever they allow, we deliver.

Which wood is best for an old Pinelands hearth?

Blue Gum / Bloekom for a full-sized open hearth. Short Pieces if the grate is small, as many of the original houses are. Bloekom or blackwattle if you run a closed-combustion unit; Heat Logs if you want fewer top-ups.

Is the wood dry enough for an old sitting-room hearth?

Yes. Every bag is seasoned and kept under cover at our Parow yard — ten minutes up the road — until it goes on the truck, so it lights properly and burns hot instead of hissing and smoking a low-ceilinged room. Do you deliver to the retirement villages and flats in Pinelands?

Yes. Give us the village or block name, the unit number and the visitor procedure in the order notes, and the driver books in and brings the bags to the door. A bag or two of Short Pieces or a box of Heat Logs at a time is a normal order — there is no minimum.

Is Thornton or the Mowbray side the same fee as Pinelands?

Checkout decides by postcode: a Pinelands address in 7405 is R250, and neighbouring suburbs fall into their own zones. Enter your address and the fee shows before you pay; if it looks wrong for where you are, WhatsApp us the address.

Can I combine a Pinelands delivery with a collection on Saturday?

You can do either, whichever suits the week: a weekday delivery for R250 with the bags stacked in the garage, or a Saturday morning at the Parow shop (08:00–12:45) with no fee. Saturday deliveries themselves are on request only, when enough demand lines up.
