Delivery to Claremont & Kenilworth

The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, braai wood, Namibian hardwood and charcoal to Claremont, Kenilworth, Bishopscourt and Harfield Village for R300 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days, and carrying the bags in and stacking them is part of the fee, whether that is a Harfield front room or a Bishopscourt wood store.

Delivery fee: R300 for a bag of Short Pieces or a Bishopscourt stack alike. No minimum order.

Delivery days: Monday to Friday, and Saturdays on request when there is enough demand. Most Claremont orders arrive within 1–2 business days; in the wettest weeks of winter, when the whole of the Southern Suburbs orders at once, allow 2–4. Checkout shows the current turnaround before you pay.

Cut-off: Thursday 15:00 for Friday’s Southern Suburbs run. An order after that sometimes squeezes onto the Friday truck — WhatsApp and ask, but plan on the next run.

Carry-in and stacking: in the fee. If you would rather have the wood loose in a box or a store than in bags, unbagging is R10 a bag at checkout.

Access: Harfield’s avenues are narrow, one-way in places and short on parking, so the truck stops where it can and the bags come the rest of the way by hand. Bishopscourt is the opposite problem — a gate, an intercom and a long drive. Both are solved by one line in the order notes.

Two halves of Claremont, and the railway line between them

Claremont has two halves, and the railway line splits them. Upper Claremont climbs west from Cavendish towards the mountain and Bishopscourt along Protea Road — bigger plots, older oaks, double-storey homes with a proper chimney and a sitting room built around it. Lower Claremont, east of the line towards Lansdowne Road, is flatter and closer packed: semis and 1930s bungalows with a small brick grate in the lounge. Harfield Village, between Claremont and Kenilworth, is rows of Victorian cottages either side of 2nd Avenue with the front door a step off the pavement and a fireplace built when the cottage was — shallow, narrow, no room for a full-length log. Bishopscourt is the other end of the scale: long driveways off Klaassens Road, oaks that drip until mid-morning after rain, and hearths sized for the room. Kenilworth runs from the racecourse side, where the older houses keep a sitting-room fire and a braai on the stoep, up to Upper Kenilworth under the M3. It is one of our busiest postcodes, and the orders are as varied as the houses: a bag of Short Pieces for a Harfield cottage, ten bloekom and a stack of Namibian hardwood through a Bishopscourt gate.

What we’d put on the truck for a Claremont house: four bloekom for the hearth, two Short Pieces for the nights the fire only needs topping up, a bag of Pine kindling, stacked under the stoep.

Which wood is best for a Harfield Village cottage fireplace?

Short Pieces. The grates in those cottages are shallow and narrow, and a standard log sits half out of the fire. Short Pieces are the same seasoned bloekom cut to fit, so the fire draws properly and the room warms instead of the chimney.

We’re in Bishopscourt behind a gate. How does delivery work?

Put the gate procedure, the intercom name and where the wood store is in the order notes. The driver carries the bags up the drive and stacks them in the wood store, the garage or by the fireplace — whichever you say. Long drives are normal on this route.

Do you deliver to Claremont on Saturdays?

On request. The Southern Suburbs route runs Monday to Friday, and we do Saturday deliveries when there is enough demand on the day, so ask us on WhatsApp. Otherwise the factory shop at 35 Tredoux Street, Parow is open Saturdays 08:00–12:45 for collection, and we load it for you.

Is the wood dry enough for a small Claremont grate?

Yes, and a small grate is where it matters most — damp wood in a shallow firebox smokes the room out. Every bag is seasoned and kept under cover at our Parow yard until it goes on the truck. Can you deliver to a flat in Claremont near Cavendish?

Yes. Put the block name, the floor and whether there is a lift in the order notes, and the driver brings the bags up. Flats near Cavendish and along Main Road usually take two or three bags of Short Pieces at a time, which fits a cupboard without looking like a woodpile.

Is Upper Kenilworth under the M3 the same delivery zone?

Yes — Upper Kenilworth, Kenilworth by the racecourse, Claremont on both sides of the line, Harfield Village and Bishopscourt are all R300. Checkout confirms the fee from your postcode before you pay.

The avenues in Harfield are one-way and there is nowhere to park. Can you still get to us?

Yes — that is a normal Harfield delivery. The truck stops where it can and the driver carries the bags the rest of the way by hand and stacks them where you say. A line in the order notes about the nearest place to pull in helps.
