Delivery to Woodstock & Salt River
The Firewood Company delivers kaggelhout, short pieces, Namibian hardwood and restaurant-grade lump charcoal to Woodstock, Upper Woodstock, Walmer Estate and Salt River for R300 per drop. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days. Offloading and stacking the bags included. Observatory shares the postcode but is on our Southern Suburbs page.
Delivery fee: R300 flat, whatever you order. No minimum.
Delivery days: Monday to Friday. Typical turnaround is 1–2 business days; in peak winter weeks it can stretch to 2–4. The turnaround for your order is shown at checkout before you pay, and we update it as demand changes.
Cut-off: order by Thursday 15:00 to be on Friday’s run. After that, ask — there is sometimes space on a Friday morning truck, but don’t count on it.
Offloading and stacking the bags: included. Unbagging is R10 a bag, added at checkout.
Access: the side streets between Albert Road and Roodebloem Road are narrow, parked on both sides and often one-way. Tell us in the order notes whether the truck can pull up outside or has to stop at the corner, and the driver carries the bags the rest of the way.
Woodstock & Salt River: the local paragraph
Woodstock runs from the harbour edge up the slope towards Devil’s Peak, and the two halves want different things from us. Upper Woodstock, on the hill above Roodebloem Road, is rows of Victorian semis and cottages with a pressed-steel ceiling, a narrow passage and an original grate in the front room that was built for coal and is happier now with a short piece of bloekom. Lower down, along Albert Road, the old mills and warehouses have been cut into lofts and studios, and a loft has a closed-combustion unit and a cupboard rather than a fireplace and a wood store — heat logs country. Salt River, over the railway line, is the same Victorian stock in tighter rows, and the same small grates. The weather here is the south-easter coming down off Devil’s Peak, hard enough in summer to move a wheelie bin down Roodebloem Road, and wood left in an open yard gets dust in it before it gets lit. Then there is the trade. Albert Road and the streets off it hold a real concentration of coffee roasters, grills and pizza ovens, and most of them are buying charcoal from whoever answered the phone last week. A 10kg bag of restaurant-grade lump charcoal, same piece size every bag, on a standing weekly drop, is the fix for that.

Where should I keep the wood in a small Woodstock yard?
Under cover, off the ground and with the open side away from Devil’s Peak, because that is where the south-easter comes from. A corner of the passage or under the stoep works. Tell us where in the order notes and the driver stacks it there, not at the gate.
