Delivery to the South Peninsula
The Firewood Company delivers firewood, bulk loose loads and charcoal to Hout Bay, Llandudno and Muizenberg for R350 per drop, and to Noordhoek, Sun Valley, Fish Hoek, St James and Kalk Bay for R495. Deliveries run Monday to Friday, typically within 1–2 business days.
Delivery fee: R350 to Hout Bay, Llandudno and Muizenberg. R495 to Noordhoek, Sun Valley, Fish Hoek, St James and Kalk Bay. Kommetjie and Capri are not on the route.
Delivery days: Monday to Friday. Typical turnaround is 1–2 business days; in peak winter weeks it can stretch to 2–4. The turnaround for your order is shown at checkout before you pay, and we update it as demand changes.
Cut-off: order by Thursday 15:00 to be on the Friday run. Orders after that can sometimes be squeezed onto Friday morning’s trucks if there’s space — ask, don’t count on it.
Why the far end costs more. Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay are over an hour from Parow before the truck has offloaded anything, and there is one road along the coast. Charging the same fee there as in Hout Bay would mean putting the difference on everybody else’s order. So we publish two numbers instead of one — and both of them are on this page rather than appearing as a surprise at checkout. Nobody down here orders one bag at R495; most orders are twenty bags or a loose load, and at that size the fee is a small part of the total.
Offloading and stacking the bags: included — wood store, barn, carport, boma, next to the fire pit, up to the cottage. Tell us in the order notes. Unbagging (bagged orders) is R10 a bag, added at checkout.
Long or steep driveway? Say so, and say whether a truck can turn at the top. Half of Hout Bay and most of the mountain-side streets in Kalk Bay need that one line.
What twenty bags cost, delivered to Fish Hoek: 20 × R109 bloekom + R495 delivery = R2,675, stacked in the barn — about R134 a bag landed. To Hout Bay, six bags: 6 × R109 + R350 = R1,004.

What the South Peninsula orders
Two things shape every order down here: the plots are bigger, and everything is damp for half the year.
Hout Bay and Noordhoek order like smallholdings, because a lot of them are. Fire pits rather than built-in braais, boma evenings, a hearth in the house and horses in the paddock — and orders that go out by the truckload rather than the bag. This is the one region on our map where a bulk loose load is usually the right answer rather than a compromise: 250, 500 or 1,000 pieces, delivered and offloaded, at the best price per fire we sell. We sell loose wood from October to March, so you can season it through the summer for the winter after — if you have a barn, a carport or a covered wood store, that is what you should be buying. From April to September, bagged wood is what goes on the truck.
Loose loads carry no Dry Guarantee, and we say that in the product description as well as here. They are cut, delivered and priced for someone who has the space to season and store them properly — which on these plots, most people do. If you have not got covered storage, buy bagged and let us take the risk instead.
Then there is the wet. The peninsula holds moisture in a way the rest of the metro does not — the Noordhoek wetlands, the mist that sits on the Chapman’s Peak side, and a False Bay winter that gets into everything. Wood that arrives dry will not stay dry on an open pallet down here. Off the ground, covered on top, open at the sides.
Down the False Bay side the pattern changes again. Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek are smaller, older houses on narrow streets running up the mountain, with real fireplaces and no room for a woodpile — bagged orders, more often, and a lot of short pieces.
Loose Wood — Rooikrans, Blackwattle or Blue Gum — 250, 500 or 1,000 pieces, delivered and offloaded, October to March. The best price per fire in the range, for anyone with covered storage and a summer to season it in. Every bagged product carries our Dry Guarantee; loose loads are the one product it does not cover, which is part of why they cost less.
Namibian Hardwood Chunky ±18kg — R135 — extra-large pieces, a deeper coal bed, fewer top-ups. Built for a fire pit or a boma that has to run all evening.
Blue Gum / Bloekom Seasoned ±20kg — R109 — for the winter hearth. Lights easily, burns steady.
Short Pieces – Blue Gum ±20kg — R99 — cut short on purpose, for the small fireplaces in the old Kalk Bay and Muizenberg cottages.

25 years down a long road
We have been driving the peninsula since 2001, over Chapman’s Peak when it is open and around when it is not.
It is the longest route we run in the metro and it is the one that most rewards actually turning up. Anyone can deliver in Rondebosch. Getting a load of wood to a plot off Noordhoek Main Road, on the day you said, and stacking it in the barn rather than tipping it on the drive, is a different job — and it is the one we have been doing down here for twenty-five years.

Do you deliver to Kommetjie, Simon’s Town or Scarborough?
Not at the moment. The route ends at Kalk Bay on the False Bay side and Noordhoek on the Atlantic side, so Kommetjie, Capri, Simon’s Town, Glencairn, Scarborough and Ocean View are outside it. WhatsApp us if you’re further down; if enough orders come from one direction, routes extend.
Do you deliver bulk loose loads to smallholdings?
Yes, from October to March — 250, 500 or 1,000 pieces of rooikrans, blackwattle or blue gum, delivered and offloaded. It is the best-value way to buy if you have covered storage and can season it over summer. Loose loads carry no Dry Guarantee, which is part of why they cost less. If you have nowhere covered to store them, buy bagged instead.
How should I store firewood on the peninsula?
Off the ground, covered on top, open at the sides so air moves through. It is damper down here than anywhere else in the metro and wood on bare ground under a sealed sheet will go off, however dry it arrived.
What’s best for a fire pit or a boma?
Namibian Hardwood Chunky — extra-large pieces, a deep bed of coals, and you are not feeding it every twenty minutes. Kameeldoring if you want it still going when everyone leaves.
Can you get down a long or steep driveway?
Usually. Tell us in the order notes whether a truck can turn at the top, and we will send the right vehicle.
Is your wood actually dry?
Yes, and we stake 25 years on it. Our bagged wood is seasoned and stored under cover, so it lights properly and burns hot instead of hissing at you.
